A simple guide to making friends during your trip

For years, I assumed my failed attempts at making new friends abroad were down to my personality. Then I blamed cultural differences. Later on, I began to suspect I might’ve been saying hello either too quickly, too slowly, or at precisely the right moment—but with entirely the wrong sound.

So I decided to do something about it: a small pronunciation guide for those who, like me, have felt they were just about to make a connection, only to trip over the very first syllable.

It doesn’t promise lifelong friendships or unforgettable conversations. But it might help you start off with the right sound. And sometimes, that’s all it takes.

"Wow! It seems interesting.
I don't know if I'd spend $21.77 to buy it,
but it looks good. Congrats!"
